The Helix is built in modules and set as a single curve, so the bolster back reads as one unbroken line from end to end. Deep burgundy velvet, channelled across the seat and back, on a squared base that keeps the whole run low against a marble floor. The configuration is drawn to your room — the piece pictured wraps a reception space from its entrance door to its wine alcove.

The brief
The family wanted a reception room in Ikoyi that could hold everyone on a Sunday without a single chair being dragged in from elsewhere. The room runs long — from the timber front door, past a stone-walled bar, to the dining table — so the answer was never going to be a three-seater against a wall. It had to be one piece that follows the room.

The drawing
We measured the floor and drew the curve to its radius before a single frame was cut. The Helix is built in modules so it can be carried through a doorway, then set as one serpentine run — each module drawn so the seam falls on a channel line and disappears.

The channels
Each channel is stitched and filled one at a time, then the whole run is wrapped in a single length of burgundy velvet so the curve reads as one unbroken line. A curve is where upholstery is hardest to hide: every channel has to land on the same line, or the eye finds it.

The room, finished
Set on a squared base that keeps it low against the veined marble, the Helix gathers the room around it: the brass coffee table at its centre, the bar stools at its shoulder, the media wall across from it. Nothing else in the room needs to work as hard.
